Pollinator Pathways: Creating a Backyard Habitat for Pollinators

Sunday, March 17th at 4:30 P.M.
in the Colebrook Town Hall Meeting Room

Presented by John Markelon: President of the Litchfield Land Trust

We invite you to join the Colebrook Land Conservancy for an in-person event at the Colebrook Town Hall (or remotely by Zoom) with guest speaker, John Markelon, on Sunday, April 16th at 4:00 p.m. John is the President of the Litchfield Land Trust, a recently retired high school Environmental Science Teacher, and a Passionate Advocate of Pollinators! He will give us tips on how to create backyard backyard habitats and help pollinators. This event is free and refreshments will be served.

In this presentation, John will discuss the ways in which gardeners can make deliberate and informed decisions about the way they manage their land. Current research shows that there is a critical decline in pollinators. Effective ecological decisions can guide the creation of simple and beneficial backyard pollinator habitats. John will provide tips on optimizing plant choices to maximize success for pollinator diversity and present simple mapping tools that can help visualize interconnected pollinator pathways. Participants will learn about the tools to organize a pollinator pathway including: cost effective native plant propagation, community organizing, volunteer engagement, and other related topics.
